Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
My Rating : 5/5 STAR
MovieStudio Quote >> “A slapstick comic-strip comedy genre someone would love to watch!”
Based on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Oni Press comic book of the same name, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World follows the eponymous slacker rocker on his colorful quest to defeat his dream girl’s seven evil ex-boyfriends. Twenty-two-year-old Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) may not have a job, but rocking the bass for his band, Sex Bob-omb, is a tough job unto itself.
When Scott locks eyes with Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), he knows she’s the girl he wants to grow old with. But Ramona has some serious baggage; her supercharged exes rue the thought of her being with another man, and they’ll crush any guy who gives her a second glance.
Now, in order to win Ramona’s heart, Scott will do battle with everyone from vegan-powered rock gods to sinister skateboarders, never losing sight of his gorgeous goal as he pummels his way to victory.
Shaun of the Dead’s Edgar Wright directs the film from a script he penned with Michael Bacall. Superhero veterans Chris Evans and Brandon Routh co-star in the action comedy as two of the seven ex-boyfriends.
Cellular (2004)
My Rating : 4/5 STAR
MovieStudio Quote >> “Smart, Thrilling and action adrenaline all the way. Chris is cool in this!”
Ryan (Chris Evans) receives a phone call from a stranger on his cellular phone. The woman calling is Jessica Martin (Kim Basinger), a science teacher who has been kidnapped by Greer (Jason Statham). Greer has taken Jessica to a county house and locked her in the attic, but before he leaves, he smashes the phone with a sledgehammer. Jessica is able to put some of the pieces of the phone back together and make a call to the outside world.
After several hours of touching the phone wires together, Ryan’s cell phone is the only person she is able to contact. Ryan first thinks it is a joke, but Jessica gets Ryan’s attention when she tells him that they are going to kill her husband and son. The batteries in Ryan’s cell phone are about to go out when Ryan takes the law into his own hands. Saving the lives of Jessica and her family becomes Ryan’s number one mission in life.
London (2005)
My Rating : 2.5/5 STAR
MovieStudio Quote >> “A compelling star cast all over a simple break-up conversation. Could have been better!”
When Syd learns that his ex-girlfriend London is leaving New York without telling him, he responds by impulsively crashing her going away party. Once there, rather than confront her, he holes up in the bathroom with a pile of cocaine and Bateman, an enigmatic Englishman he barely knows.
As the two engage in a drug-fueled conversation that runs the gamut from entropy to S&M to the meaning of life, Syd struggles to work up the nerve to talk to London before it’s too late.
